2019 Harley-Davidson® Technology

At Buddy Stubbs Arizona Harley-Davidson®, we’re always on the lookout for new developments from our favorite brand. That’s why we know that several Harley-Davidson® new models for 2019[1]  will come with the BOOM! Box GTS infotainment system features a high-resolution glove-friendly touchscreen display. You’ll also love the advanced GPS navigation, music playback, and cellphone capabilities from its Apple CarPlay compatibility. Innovation doesn’t stop with the new H-D bikes, thanks to its breakthrough FXRG collection that lets you customize your riding apparel and venture anywhere and in any weather. Between the BOOM! Box GTS and FXRG apparel, we’re very excited about what 2019 will bring for the brand.

New Navigation Engine

The heart of the BOOM! Box GTS’s functionality is its new navigation engine, which incorporates a familiar interface method that’s already in use on your favorite mobile devices. Two-finger navigation allows you to swipe and find what you need, as well as pinch and drag to resize the display. This new version also offers lightning-fast startup times, voice recognition-enabled searching and new thumb-operated buttons on your bike’s hand controls.

New Touch Screen Glass that Can Be Used with Gloves

The updated 2019 BOOM! Box GTS infotainment system[2]  features Corning’s Gorilla series touchscreen glass. Already famous for its durability and scratch-resistant performance on mobile devices all over the world, the GTS’s sleek-looking touchscreen is optimized for use in both wet or dry conditions. Even better, you can effortlessly touch, swipe, pinch or drag using either your gloves or your bare hands.

TFT Display With 100% More Resolution

Another benefit of the GTS’s Corning Gorilla touch screen glass is its enhanced TFT display. The glass is optically bonded to an advanced thin-film transistor liquid crystal display, providing 100 percent more resolution and a contrast ratio that’s up to four times higher than on previous models. This innovation paired with a reflective minimizing treatment on the display surface results in incredible visibility in any lighting as well as crisper and higher-quality images.

Apple CarPlay

The 2019 BOOM! Box GTS infotainment system comes with another impressive breakthrough: Apple CarPlay stereo compatibility. A seamless connection between your Apple device and the GTS gives you fast access to your tunes along with other key phone functions such as weather, traffic and the Harley-Davidson® iOS app. With CarPlay’s familiar Apple interface, there’s no guesswork when you want to find your music, maps, and other essentials. This upgraded version also permits you to directly import your ride routes from the Harley-Davidson® App using a Bluetooth or USB smartphone connection.

FXRG High-Performance Riding System

Customize your gear in any weather conditions with Harley-Davidson’s® innovative three-layer FXRG High-Performance Riding System. Start off with the base layer tees and pants, both made from high-performance moisture-wicking fabric designed to keep you cool during summer and warm in the winter. 2019 SCH FXDR™ 114 Spotlight

2019 SCH FXDR 114 Spotlight

Since the V-Rod retired, power cruiser fans have been on the lookout for the next hefty bike from Harley-Davidson®. Fortunately, the newest rendition has arrived: the 2019 Harley FXDR™ is the V-Rod’s spiritual successor with a few tricks up its sleeve. With the same kick as its predecessor but with enhanced agility, this bike is a monster on the road.

Power

The FXDR’s massive capacity for speed is fueled by the Milwaukee-eight engine, the new Big Twin manufactured by Harley-Davidson®. This motor has a state-of-the-art cooling system to keep you riding even when you burn rubber and combines power and precision with approximately 100 horsepower and a torque of 119 pound-feet. This means an impressive acceleration as you push for those high speeds.

The Milwaukee-eight is, as its name suggests, an eight-valve engine adapted to meet modern needs. In addition to remedying the overheating issues that plagued previous models, this motor is fuel-efficient and meets emissions requirements on top of being highly reliable. The revamped design results in an additional 50 percent airflow capacity to keep internal parts from warping.

Performance

The biggest upgrade on the Harley Davidson FXDR is its handling capabilities. Inspired by drag bike designs, this motorcycle sports custom hardware to increase its precision on the road. This includes an inverted racing style fork for better leaning without trading stability. With a lean angle of 33 degrees, this bike can take you through twists and curves even as you reach those thrilling speeds.

 Weight

The FXDR is certainly no lightweight—at 637 pounds, this bike is all muscle. However, H-D has leaned into the newest line of Softail frames by making this biker lighter than previous power cruisers. Equipped to channel the massive torque of the Milwaukee-eight, this heavily researched frame contributes to the drop of nearly 35 pounds compared to 2017’s models.

The engineers at Harley-Davidson® set their sights on alternative materials when they tackled the challenge of a lighter power cruiser. Certain elements traditionally made of steel were instead fashioned with the less dense aluminum and other alloys. One example of an optimized part is the swingarm, which itself further increases handling capabilities by allowing better use of chassis geometry.

Innovation
This bike comes with all the electric fixings, including:

      Keyless ignition
      LED rear lighting
      LED turn signals
      LED Daymaker headlamp
      Digital riser gauge

This technology adds convenience, and a touch of flair to a model celebrated for its modernization.

Aesthetic

Despite the changes, the FXDR has a look and feel that’s all Harley. While updated, the silhouette and chassis are still steeped in iconic style.

Though the Milwaukee-eight engine is designed to reduce noise, H-D engineers were careful to keep the classic roar that riders prize as part of the biking experience. Based on customer feedback, the Harley FXDR retains the famed exhaust rumble while decreasing mechanical noise and staying within EPA guidelines.

The new engine also cuts down on vibration by 75 percent. While engineers found it possible to eliminate vibration, after extensive testing with customers, it became clear that some degree of shake is a valued trait of the Harley-Davidson® motorcycle. The resulting compromise should appeal to newer customers who expect more smoothness while still satisfying faithful riders’ need for that true H-D feel.

If you like what you see and want this powerhouse of a motorcycle in your garage, Buddy Stubbs Harley-Davidson® in Phoenix and Anthem are the places to go. As the first authorized Harley-Davidson® dealer in Arizona, we’re dedicated to serving our state’s biker community. For more information on this elite machine, get in touch with us by calling (602) 833-5505.

Bike Spotlight: 2019 Harley H-D Street

Bike Spotlight: 2019 Harley H-D Street

For decades, Harley-Davidson bikes have held the finger on the pulse of lasting and emerging trends in the industry. The Harley-Davidson Street series models Street 500, Street 750 and Street Rod have been great additions to the Harley family.

Street Series vs. Traditional Models
Harley-Davidson Street family is reminiscent of the Sportster family that was launched in 1957 and continues today. The idea is to introduce a high-quality entry-level priced bike that offers a no-frills experience while still having the allure of a true Harley. Both Street 500 and 750 are entry-level models compared to the Touring or Softail lines. They provide a rugged and mean appearance, but also offer a friendly ride.

What You Get With a Street Series Bike
As mentioned, these models are stripped down and offer basic instrumentation that is found on all Harley bikes. They come with a standard 3.5-inch speedometer that displays only the basic information like distance travelled and led indicators, nothing to detract you from riding experience. A 28-inch seat height should accommodate riders of all sizes and provides a comfortable seating position during city cruising speeds and highway blowout sessions alike. The bike is agile and quite maneuverable with the short 60.4-inch wheelbase and a 32-degree steering angle.

The V-Twin Engine
This is a pure thoroughbred Harley-Davidson, meaning that the engine is one of its most distinguished features. Street 500 series actually offers that smallest production engine coming out of the factory but it still packs quite a punch; 29.5 pound-feet at 3,750 rpm that perhaps sounds a bit low, but with the lowered weight is still sharp for the entry level commuter bike.
Street 750 series engine offers 46 cubic inches (749 cc) as opposed to 30 cubic inches (494 cc) of the Street 500 series and packs respectable 44.5 Pound-feet at 4,000 rpm. The ROD model spices things a bit further and offers incredible feel to it.

The verdict
The 2019 Harley-Davidson Street family continues to bring more riders to our great sport. If you would like to test ride on any Harley-Davidson model just stop in Buddy Stubbs Harley-Davidson in Phoenix, AZ or Buddy Stubbs Anthem Harley-Davidson in Anthem, AZ.

Bike Spotlight: 2019 Harley-Davidson® Sportster

Bike Spotlight: 2019 Harley-Davidson® Sportster

We have always loved the Harley Sportster, and it's not hard to see why. With its affordable price, the bevy of choices, and storied history, it really represents the ideal choice for the fledgling Tail Gunner, as well as for the legendary veteran unwilling to splash too much cash on a new hog.
For many, the main draw in this year's lineup will be the Iron 1200. It provides all the thrills with a design that veers off from the classic look of the Forty-Eight (and the more recent chromed-out Forty-Eight Special). The bikes tame "murdered out" look really catches your eye and is begging you to ride. Personally, the mini-ape bars present the most comfortable riding option and the fastback single seat is one we have really grown accustomed to over the years. Customization options, in all honesty, are rather limited with only three paint options for the tank to choose from, but let us keep things straight here; that is not why you buy this model, is it now? The reason you purchase a Sportster is that you get a bike with the premium look and feel, without the exorbitant price tag.

Plethora of choices
Keen-eyed customers also have already realized that the 1200 model represents great value for money as well as all other models form the 2019 Harley-Davidson Sportster series; the Superlow, the Iron 883, the Forty-Eight, the Roadster, and Forty Eight Special. On top of that, most of us can agree that these are a lot cheaper than any aftermarket conversion available out there. Additionally, they have that extra oomph coming from a reliable V-twin engine that is not as nagging as the boy-racers zooming around these days. The models from the Sportster family are a real joy to ride. We are far removed from the days when Harley's were considered sluggish, and all the revisions of the chassis, suspension, and breaks really help the Sportster series models shine at their full capacity.

The Verdict
To summarize, despite all the rumors of the Sportster going away in the coming years, this year’s line-up is one you should really check out. You can book a test drive for this weekend at a local Harley-Davidson here in Anthem. If you are from Anthem, Phoenix, or Cave Creek, be sure to drop by your local Buddy Stubbs and book your own test drive of the 2019 Harley Sportster in addition to other models.

Bike Spotlight: 2019 Harley-Davidson® Softail

Bike Spotlight: 2019 Harley-Davidson® Softail

It seems that the highly criticized turn towards performance Harley-Davidson took a couple of years back is now paying off big time. Perhaps, the 2019 Harley Softail series proves the point the most. During the 1990s and the early 2000s, where many felt like there was just not enough variety between the models in their series, it definitely cannot be said about them today. There are 14 Softail models, and the distinctions between them are quite visible, and what's more important to riders, palpable. Let's get into it.

What 2019 Harley Softail Models Have in Common?
Some of the models remained practically the same comparing to the last year's series, but some of them got completely revamped. Small tweaks on Harley's V-twin engine resulted in just a bit more oomph; just that one last drop that was missing to name it a timeless classic. Now the engine sounds amazing as opposed to "just great;" it no longer can be considered harmless, safe and boring.
The other thing many have really noticed is the improvements to the chassis and the braking system. While many of the models had double discs up front in the previous lineup, this is now a feature only on Fat Bob. After hours of test riding each model, most people barely notice it, until they read it on the official site. The ride quality is substantially improved, and the Fat Bob really stood out from the crowd with amazing cornering clearance. 2019 Softail bikes are made with performance in mind while maintaining the soul and the heritage of thoroughbred hogs we got from Harley-Davidson over the decades.

What Are the Differences Between the Series Models?
There are 14 models in the 2019 Harley Softail series and discussing each of them individually is definitely something we look forward to doing in the future. Right now, let’s just list out all the models and simply direct you to the Buddy Stubbs Harley-Davidson page where you can get a better insight into each of these models;
  • FXDR™ 114
  • Breakout
  • Deluxe
  • Fat Bob
  • Fat Boy
  • Heritage Classic
  • Low Rider
  • Slim
  • Sport Glide
  • Street Bob
  • Breakout 114
  • Heritage Classic 114
  • Fat Bob 114
  • Fat Boy 114
Conclusion
While the classic Harley-Davidson used to be a visual and heart-driven purchase, the 2019 Harley Softail models fall under passion and skin-of-the-teeth purchase category, and you simply cannot make the right choice without getting a feel for the bike and test riding it. You should do your research, test drive them all, and look for your local Buddy Stubbs Harley-Davidson dealership in Anthem. Schedule your test rides and see what makes Harley-Davidson Softail models instant classics.

Bike Spotlight: 2019 Harley-Davidson® Trike

Bike Spotlight: 2019 Harley-Davidson® Trike

Have you been thinking about getting a trike? Well, there is no better time than now to make the switch as the impressive 2019 Harley-Davidson Trike models are beginning to make their debut. There are many reasons bikers switch to trikes. Some love the comfort and stability they provide, while passengers appreciate the roomier backseat area. Regardless of your reason for making the switch, once you go trike, you may never go back to bike! Here is what you should know about the 2019 Harley-Davidson Trike series before you buy.

H-D Trike Series

Just like their bikes, Harley-Davidson trikes have head-turning custom styling, laid-back comfort, and incredible handling. And of course, each trike comes with that impressive engine sound every Harley-lover recognizes. The 2019 Harley-Davidson Trike series comes with two different models: the Tri Glide and the Freewheeler. Both come with significant upgrades to the suspension, traction and brake systems.

New-for-2019 Technology

The 2019 Tri Glide and Freewheeler feature impressive, new-for-2019 technology, including all-new front, rear suspension, and Reflex Linked Brake Systems. The new front suspension offers improved handling and braking performance thanks to its dual-bending valve internal technology. The rear suspension provides optimal suspension performance and easy pre-load adjustment capabilities due to its convenient location just below the seat.

The all-new electronic brake system uses an ABS sensor and an inertial measurement unit to improve braking control and enhance traction in all weather conditions. It is especially useful in wet weather situations and emergencies. The Reflex Linked Brake System is fully electronic and links breaking through both the rear brake foot pedal and front brake hand lever. The trike must be traveling faster than approximately 4.3 mph when the brakes are applied for the linking system to be activated. As long as the rider continues to apply pressure to the brake control, the brakes will remain linked.

 How Trikes Differ From Bikes

Bikes and trikes both have manual transmissions, but each uses different steering methods.  When riding a bike, you rely on “counter steering” to lean into a turn without tipping. When riding a trike, you will use “direct steering” instead. Direct steering is more like driving a car, and there is no leaning involved. Instead, you tilt the handlebars in the direction you want to go. Being that you do not have to counter centrifugal forces by leaning when turning your trike, the riding experience is much easier on your legs and knees.

Bike Spotlight: 2019 Harley-Davidson® CVO

Owning a Harley is about being yourself, no matter what the rest of the world thinks. Beyond Harley-Davidsons trademark quality and gritty good looks, it makes a big difference to choose the model that fits your personality like a glove. Here is everything you need to know about the jaw-dropping Harley-Davidson CVO series.

What Makes CVO Stand Apart

Harley-Davidson motorcycles are already distinctive; Custom Vehicle Operations (CVO) models are guaranteed to turn even more heads.

Bragging rights: CVOs are something special, starting with their limited-edition production. H-D reserves exclusive paint colors for their CVO bikes, meaning it is impossible to rock those tones any other way.
Performance: You need the growl of a powerful engine to rule the road. Harley-Davidson’s prime Milwaukee-Eight® 117 V-Twin engine is only found on CVOs, offering superior torque by far.
Max features: You love chrome. So, do we. 2019 Harley CVO models are packed with it, along with tons of storage space, dynamite trim and extremely comfortable yet durable seats for the long haul.
Painstaking attention to detail: CVO models are the Ferraris of the motorcycle world. Every nut, bolt, seam, and surface is crafted to perfection and carefully inspected by master motorcycle makers.
Major audio: Cruising the open road isn’t the same without crisp high-definition Wi-Fi audio that lets you rock for real.

CVOs are such a one-of-a-kind that Harley only releases a limited number of models each year. That means if you want the CVO version of your favorite bike – Street Glide, Road Glide or Special for 2019 – it’s best not to wait.

Guide to 2019 CVO Models

CVO Road Glide

This CVO is a hot rod meant for making noise and showing off while doing it.

        Screamin’ Eagle Heavy Breather
        21-inch front wheel
        Fang front spoiler

CVO Street Glide

Specs-wise, the CVO Street Glide shares a lot in common with the CVO Road Glide. But it's Batwing fairing makes all the difference in the world to loyalists. Its signature profile and fork-mounted construction change the weight profile and handling of your bike. Both groups are pretty entrenched, so always go with your gut.

CVO Limited

This bike was born for long-distance touring. With an all-around larger build, increased length, more tricked-out storage space and added weight for highway stability, it will never leave your side for even a second. The CVO Limited also has a twin-cooled V-Twin Milwaukee-Eight 117 built for endurance.

Bike Spotlight: 2019 Harley-Davidson® Touring

Modern times bring about new trends and new ideas. Lately, these have all been centered on sporty entry-level bikes that you use to zip around town, maybe travel with the buddies for a two-day trip, or something similar. But riding a motorcycle, a big hog, is not how you get from point A to point B; it's the way of life; it's the passion and heritage that has been the staple of the Harley-Davidson culture for decades. This is best represented in their 2019 Harley Touring series, which really brought back the feeling of the good old days.

Instant classics
Those two words are the best way to summarize all ten models from the Touring Series. Here are two more; V-twin engine. Harley's engineers did such an amazing job tweaking this engine to absolute perfection and called it "The Milwaukee Eight." Many people have commented about how the same design formula that has existed for years can offer such a dramatic shift in performance.
Chassis improvements and the detailing of each model are simply the icing on the cake that makes the Harley Touring series stand out from the crowd. We very much look forward to getting in serious miles with these hogs. At Buddy Stubbs, you can do the same thing with a test drive of any of the Harley Touring options.
2019 Harley Touring Models

It's pretty rare to look at a new line-up of motorcycles and love 80% of the models. This is what we keep seeing over and over, and Harley has really outdone itself with the Touring models. Of course, we all differ in regards to style and performance preferences, but Harley did a great job of creating a fantastic base upon which they built these ten models tailored for riders with a very specific taste. This list contains a hog for everyone, and if you are thinking of a Touring model, here are your choices:
  • Electra Glide Ultra Classic
  • Road Glide
  • Road Glide Special

Top 5 Most Iconic Movie Harleys

Harley-Davidson is one of the most prolific motorcycle manufacturers, having been in operation for over 100 years. Throughout this time, the influence of Harley can be seen in the film industry. In fact, there are many movies with Harley-Davidson bikes prominently featured. Here are five of the most iconic movie Harleys.

1951 Panhead Chopper
  • Movie: Easy Rider
  • Rider: Peter Fonda
Harley fans would be hard-pressed to find a more quintessential motorcycle film. The Chopper driven by Peter Fonda’s character, Wyatt, is one of the most iconic bikes ever. Two “Captain America” choppers were built for filming, but only one survived. Replicas have been created, with many of the best on display at the Harley-Davidson museum.

1990 Fat Boy
  • Movie: Terminator 2: Judgement Day
  • Rider: Arnold Schwarzenegger
One of the best chase scenes in film history is the bike vs. semi scene from Terminator 2. In it, the T-1000, played by Robert Patrick, drives a powerful semi and chases Edward Furlong’s John Connor. Thankfully, Schwarzenegger’s Terminator saves the day, riding a 1990 Fat Boy. The maneuverability and speed of the bike were no match for any semi.

1987 FXRS-SP Low Rider Sport Edition
  • Movie: Heathers
  • Rider: Christian Slater
Audiences knew that JD, played by Christian Slater, was different than the other characters in the movie as soon as he rolled up on his Harley. The scene introduced him in slow motion, juxtaposing his introduction with scenes of bullying, establishing his character as a bad boy with a heart. A key part of what made his character so cool was his Harley.

1978 FLH Electra Glide
  • Movie: Rocky III
  • Rider: Sylvester Stallone
Rocky rode his iconic Electra Glide throughout this film, using it as his primary form of transportation. The bike featured in one of the film’s most emotional scenes, making it a key part of iconic movie history. As Rocky tries to clear his head following the death of his mentor, he goes on a long ride, eventually breaking down in anger and despair.

FLHTP Electra Glide
  • Movie: In the Line of Fire
  • Rider: The President’s Escort Detail
One of the most iconic Harley scenes in movie history happens in this thriller. In it, the viewer is introduced to the police escort with long shots of two rows of cops riding in a very specific formation, each rider on an identical Electra Glide.

Top 5 Best Motorcycle Day Trips in Arizona

Going on long Arizona motorcycle rides is one of the best ways you can spend a lovely day. Arizona is a fantastic state for motorcycle enthusiasts, in part because of its beautiful, warm weather. Additionally, there is no shortage of day trip locations available. If you are searching for one of the best destinations for motorcycle trips in Arizona, be sure to check out the following:

Wickenburg, Prescott

This is the perfect trip to take during the warmer months of summer. The ride itself is 300 miles long from Phoenix, taking you out of the valley and toward higher peaks. You can stretch your legs by experiencing an Old West walking tour, or you can opt for an extended ride, looping around Prescott and reconnecting with the Joshua Forest Parkway.

Sunset Point

If you are looking for one of the most scenic motorcycle rides in Arizona, consider taking Highway 89 in Flagstaff west toward Loop Road. Travel along this route for about four miles to arrive at Sunset Point, where you can carry on for as long as you like. The area is filled with mountains, red rock scenery, forests, and even an extinct volcano.

Bagdad to Iron Springs

The Bagdad to Iron Springs route takes you through copper mining land, filled with stunning and interesting rock formations thanks to historical volcanic activity. If you follow along Highway 10, or Springs Road, you can find a museum, a café, and a stunning canyon filled with cottonwood trees.

Lake Pleasant, Castle Hot Springs

Riders who love a day trip but hate traffic love this journey. While you do need to take the interstate, once you get off at exit 103, nothing but the landscape is there to greet you. Be cautious as you traverse the curvy roads on your way through the Vulture Mountains and into the Vulture Mine ghost town.

Payson, Mogollon Rim

This trip is a giant loop, consisting of about 300 miles and offering beautiful, unique views of the southern edge of the Colorado Plateau. The ride takes you through different climates, so be sure you dress in layers. Along the way, you can expect to see the largest Ponderosa woodlands in North America.
